Gunter Mansion has been featured as one of few national treasures to be awarded funding in the National Heritage Memorial Fund’s (NHMF) annual roundup. The NHMF’s vital role in protecting the nation’s heritage is widely recognised and it is brilliant that the Gunter Mansion has been recognised for its importance in such a turbulent time in our history, with the activities in Gunter Mansion at the time being propelled even to parliamentary discussion in the mid to late 17th century. The funding is aimed at ensuring that vital work is put into the building to save its deteriorating condition and make it accessible to the public! Its a great honour to be
featured in the roundup with other great pieces of British history, such as Lawrence of Arabia’s dagger and robes! Sir Peter Luff, Chair of the NHMF, has stated that the “NHMF has again demonstrated the remarkable scope of its important role safeguarding the nation’s heritage,” and we believe it is excellent to see the well deserved Gunter Mansion featured in this group.
The funding by the NHMF is vital for ensuring our work at the Welsh Georgian Trust to allow public access and make sure everyone is aware of the importance of this beautiful building to Abergavenny’s, and Wales’, history.
